Brazil Agency - Around 400 people have been protesting since early this morning (28) in front of the Companhia de Entrepostos e Armazéns Gerais de São Paulo (Ceagesp) against a new tax that will be charged to truck drivers. The protesters completely blocked one of the lanes of Avenida Gastão Vidigal, west of the city of São Paulo, one of the main accesses to Ceagesp. The amount and the date on which the tax will come into effect have not yet been defined.

According to the Traffic Engineering Company (CET), all streets near the company are experiencing traffic disruptions. The effects of the demonstration extend to streets located approximately 2,5 kilometers from the site.

The protest is being carried out by truck drivers and stall owners who use the parking lot of the distribution center. They are protesting against the new fee that users of the parking lot will have to pay for their stay. The protesters claim that they will have to pass on the cost of the fee to the price of their products.

According to Ceagesp, the new fee will be implemented so that the wholesale market can obtain resources for the installation of a security camera and access control system in the yard. The new system is a requirement of the Public Prosecutor's Office of São Paulo, which is investigating child prostitution within Ceagesp.
