By 8:45 am, 62 people had been arrested across the country. Crimes of storing, sharing and producing child pornography are being investigated.
More than 1.500 police officers took to the streets to execute 266 search and seizure warrants across 26 states and the Federal District. The operation is taking place in 133 cities and is coordinated by the Integrated Operations Secretariat of the Ministry of Justice and Public Security.
The penalties for the crimes under investigation range from 1 to 8 years in prison.
Anyone who stores child pornography faces a prison sentence of 1 to 4 years. Those who share it face 3 to 6 years in prison. The punishment increases to 4 to 8 years in prison for those who produce this type of material.
