Lula will only announce Lewandowski's successor after returning from China.
The president has stated that he is unhappy with the behind-the-scenes dispute over the Supreme Court vacancy.
247 - President Lula (PT) will only announce his nominee to replace Minister Ricardo Lewandowski on the Supreme Federal Court (STF) after returning from his trip to China, according to Gustavo Uribe, from CNN Brazil.
Lewandowski has brought forward his retirement to April 11, the same date Lula will leave for the Asian country. The presidential delegation will include the president of the Senate, Rodrigo Pacheco (PSD-MG), and other congressmen, with whom Lula intends to discuss the Supreme Court nomination.
The nominee will have to undergo questioning by the Senate's Constitution and Justice Committee to have their name approved - or not - for admission to the Supreme Court.
Announcing Lewandowski's replacement before April 11th could be considered impolite to the current minister. Therefore, this possibility has been ruled out. On the other hand, Lula has already indicated that he does not want to wait another month to make the announcement, as he is displeased with the competition among potential candidates, as well as the suggestions of new names emerging from all sides. All indications are that Lula's chosen candidate will be the lawyer Cristiano Zanin.
