247 - President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) dismissed Health Minister Nísia Trindade on Tuesday (25). The head of state and the minister spoke at the Planalto Palace, in Brasília (DF), about changes in the top positions of the government.

The minister will be replaced by Alexandre Padilha, who will leave the government's Secretariat of Institutional Relations.

Padilha previously served as Minister of Health during the Dilma Rousseff (PT) administration. He also served as Chief Minister of the Secretariat of Institutional Relations during the 2009-2010 period, Lula's second term.

Nísia Trindade was announced by the president during the government transition in December 2022. Her management revived the Health Ministry after the disastrous administration of Jair Bolsonaro.

In Brasília, Nísia received a standing ovation after delivering a speech lasting over 30 minutes at the Planalto Palace. Before becoming a minister, she had presided over the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (Fiocruz).

Following the cabinet reshuffle, the national president of the PT party, federal deputy Gleisi Hoffmann (PR), and Senator Jaques Wagner (PT-BA) are being considered to take over the position currently held by Alexandre Padilha.
