247 - On the eve of September 7th, President Lula carried out a symbolic act at the Alvorada Palace, this Saturday (6), in which he planted a cashew tree in the garden of the official residence. The gesture was attended by the first lady, Rosângela da Silva, Janja, and the president of Embrapa, Silvia Maria Fonseca Silveira Massruhá.

President Lula's gesture comes at a moment of strong political symbolism. Besides occurring on the eve of September 7th, a date marked by civic demonstrations and which, in recent years, has been used by Bolsonaro as a space for institutional tension, Lula sought to associate the image of the cashew tree with the idea of resistance, sovereignty, and hope for the country's future.

Lula highlighted the value of planting as a metaphor for the country. "Planting is believing in the future," he stated. The president added that "caring for the present ensures a harvest that goes far beyond ourselves. The same is true for Brazil: sowing hope to reap sovereignty and dignity for our people."

In a video released on social media, Janja reinforced the symbolism of the moment and called the fruit a "legitimate sovereign cashew," alluding to the recent attacks by the United States government against Brazil. US President Donald Trump imposed a massive tariff on Brazilian products, a measure understood as political retaliation amidst Jair Bolsonaro's trial at the Supreme Federal Court (STF). Bolsonaro is facing criminal charges for alleged participation in a coup plot.
