Brazil Agency - A week after being fully cleared to resume his usual life routine, such as travel and physical activities, President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva resumes his schedule of commitments outside the federal capital. This Thursday (6), for example, Lula participates, in the city of Rio de Janeiro, in the reopening ceremony of the emergency room at the Federal Hospital of Bonsucesso, in the northern zone.

The unit is part of the emergency and urgency network of the capital and state of Rio de Janeiro, serving patients in critical condition or requiring specialized care. However, it had been closed since 2020 due to deterioration. According to the federal government, the new emergency room has 50 beds in two areas: adult and pediatric, divided by complexity levels: red, yellow, and green rooms. The service is managed by the Regulatory Center of the Unified Health System (SUS).

According to the Planalto Palace, the ceremony also marks the hospital's full capacity return, increasing from 412 to 423 beds available to the public. In October 2024, before the Conceição Hospital Group (GHC) took over, 218 beds were closed. The Diagnostic Imaging Center will also be reopened, with the provision of ultrasound exams and new high-precision X-ray equipment.

Rio de Janeiro's federal hospital network has been experiencing a chronic crisis of disrepair and serious management issues over the past few years. In its latest attempt to address the problem, the Ministry of Health has opted for a strategy of administrative decentralization for these hospitals. This is the case with the Bonsucesso Federal Hospital, where Lula will be attending, which was taken over by the Conceição Hospital Group (GHC) in October of last year.

The Andaraí Federal Hospital, also in the North Zone, will be administered by the Rio de Janeiro city government. The restructuring program also involves the State Employees' Hospital (HSE), which is being transferred to the Federal University of the State of Rio de Janeiro (UNIRIO), becoming a university hospital and administered by the Brazilian Hospital Services Company (Ebserh), a state-owned company linked to the Ministry of Health.

On Friday (7), Lula will travel to the small town of Paramirim, in the interior of Bahia. There, he will participate in the Water for All ceremony, a federal program that involves the construction of cisterns and other infrastructure for storing drinking water and ensuring water security for the population. The president will be accompanied by Governor Jerônimo Rodrigues and Ministers Rui Costa (Chief of Staff), Waldez Góes (Integration and Regional Development), Jader Filho (Cities) and Sidônio Palmeira (Social Communication), according to the Planalto Palace.
