Lula is preparing his harshest speech against Bolsonaro for May 1st.

The recalibration of tone responds to appeals from PT (Workers' Party) parliamentarians, after the party decided to support the 'Out with Bolsonaro' movement, and everything indicates that it will occur on May 1st, Labor Day, a date on which Lula usually participates in public events.

247 - After a meeting with the leadership of the Workers' Party, former president Lula decided to escalate his rhetoric and is preparing a harsh speech against Bolsonaro for May 1st, reports columnist Bela Megale of the newspaper O Globo. This escalation aims to overcome the paralysis that still grips large sectors of the Brazilian left, as well as to highlight the seriousness of the country's health and economic situation.

Current information suggests that, due to the ban on gatherings because of the coronavirus pandemic, the speech will be online.

“At Tuesday’s meeting with deputies and senators, the former president said he felt more comfortable speaking to the public given the party’s decision to join the “Out with Bolsonaro” movement. For about two weeks, part of the PT had been pressuring leaders to adopt a tougher stance against the president. The consensus came after last Sunday (19), when Bolsonaro spoke at an event in Brasília where dozens of demonstrators called for military intervention,” says the journalist’s note.

The national president of the PT (Workers' Party) stated: “Lula is the main public voice we have, the people trust him, therefore it is important that he makes a statement. The parliamentary group asked Lula to make a more formal statement. He said he would consider it, but everything indicates that he will.”
