Lula undergoes cataract surgery today in Brasilia.
A simple procedure is being carried out this Friday and follows a history of a similar intervention made by the president in 2020.
247 - President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva is undergoing cataract surgery on his left eye this Friday (30), in Brasília. The procedure is considered low complexity and recovery is quick, according to information released throughout the week. The expectation is that the president will resume his activities normally in the coming days, reports G1.
On Thursday (29), Lula was at the hospital to undergo pre-operative examinations and, after this stage, continued with official commitments at the Official Residence of Granja do Torto.
The surgery on his left eye is a repeat of a similar procedure performed in 2020, when Lula underwent surgery to correct cataracts in his right eye. In both cases, it is a widely used treatment in medicine and adopted by millions of patients every year.
Cataracts are characterized by the clouding of the lens, the eye's natural structure responsible for focusing images. The condition causes progressive vision loss and, when indicated, is treated by replacing the lens with an artificial lens, a technique considered safe and effective.
According to the information released, there is no expectation of a prolonged absence from presidential duties. Medical clearance to return to work should occur in the coming days, depending on the progress of the post-operative period.
