'Lula never committed any illegal act'
In a statement sent to TV Globo regarding the protests that took place this Sunday (16), in which he was one of the targets, former president Lula rejected having committed any crime; "Lula was imprisoned during the dictatorship because he defended freedom of expression and political organization. The Brazilian people know that he can only be accused of having promoted the improvement of living conditions and ended the hunger of millions of Brazilians, which for some seems to be an intolerable political crime," stated the Lula Institute.
