Lula: 'It is necessary for the military to treat society with respect. We know how to take care of ourselves and we don't need to be tutored.'
"We don't want the Armed Forces interfering in our country's elections," the former president stated this Saturday.
247 - Former President Lula (PT) spoke once again this Saturday (17) about the attempt by the Armed Forces, under the command of Jair Bolsonaro (PL), to interfere in the elections.
In response to the participation of military personnel in the electoral process, offering 'suggestions' for supposed 'improvements' to the voting system, Lula stated that, if elected, the Armed Forces "will return to having a noble role, which is defined in our Constitution." "Our Armed Forces shouldn't be concerned with monitoring ballot boxes. The obligation to monitor lies with the Electoral Court, the political parties, and the candidates. The Armed Forces will have to fulfill their function of guaranteeing sovereignty in this country against possible external enemies, guaranteeing our sovereignty by taking care of our territory, our borders, our airspace, and our maritime borders."
"We want the Armed Forces prepared and equipped so that no one dares to invade Brazil. We don't want the Armed Forces interfering in our country's elections," he said.
The former president also recalled the good relationship he had with the military when he was in government and spoke against the attempt by the Armed Forces to "tutor" the country. "We have already dealt with the Armed Forces and treated them with great respect, and we will continue to treat them with great respect. And it is necessary that some of them treat civil society with respect, because we know how to take care of ourselves and we don't need to be tutored."
