Lula and Biden talk for twenty minutes, praise democracy and defend environmental protection.

Brazil's president-elect and the president of the United States spoke by phone after Biden congratulated Lula on his victory over Jair Bolsonaro.

247 - President-elect Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) spoke on Monday afternoon (31) with the President of the United States, Joe Biden. 

The phone conversation lasted 20 minutes, and the two presidents discussed essential topics such as the importance of democracy, environmental preservation, and how to expand cooperation between the two countries.

On Twitter, Lula spoke about his conversation with Biden. "I spoke today by phone with the President of the United States, @JoeBiden. We talked about strengthening democracy in Brazil, preserving the environment, and our desire to expand cooperation between our countries," Lula stated.

On Sunday night, after the election results were announced by the Superior Electoral Court (TSE), the US president had already congratulated Lula on his victory via social media. On his official Twitter account, the president wrote: “I send my congratulations to Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva on his victory in a free, fair and trustworthy election. I hope we can work together and maintain cooperation between our two countries in the coming months and years ahead.”

French President Emmanuel Macron called Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva on Monday (31) to congratulate him on his victory in presidential election this Sunday (30).

In the conversation, released by Macron on Twitter, the French president congratulates Lula and says that “I was waiting for this moment with great impatience,” said the French leader.

"We are living a very happy day, because we managed to rescue democracy," Lula replied to Macron.
