Lula defends favelas and says they are spaces of culture and knowledge: "they cannot be synonymous with violence"
The president-elect, who was attacked by Jair Bolsonaro for campaigning in the country's poorer neighborhoods, celebrated Favela Day.
247 - President-elect Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) highlighted this Friday (4) that the government needs to implement actions to restore the social rights of favela residents.
"Slums are spaces for the production of culture and knowledge, where millions of workers live. They cannot be synonymous with abandonment and violence. The Brazil of the future is a country that offers education, health, transportation, and leisure to the periphery," stated the former president.
The PT member has greater popularity among people who earn up to two minimum wages or who depend on government assistance. This Thursday (3), the former president reinforced that the priority in the government transition is to guarantee the continuation of the payment of Brazil aid in the amount of R$ 600.
