247 - During a visit to Manaus (AM) this Wednesday, the 31st, former president Lula held a rally speaking about the climate issue in the Amazon Rainforest. He highlighted the importance of opening "spaces for the indigenous peoples, so that they can decide on their future."
“Today we understand the importance of taking care of our forests and our environment. I am also convinced that we need to open up spaces for indigenous peoples so that they can decide on their own future,” he said.
"We are going to create a Ministry for Indigenous Peoples. Funai doesn't need to be run by a white person; it can be run by an indigenous person," he stated.
Lula also reinforced the importance of environmental policies to preserve the environment. "We need to take care of the world, because climate change is happening every day. The world is not a game; we are just passing through, but nature must be eternal," he declared.
"Either we take the destruction of the planet seriously, and there will be no more illegal mining on indigenous lands in all Brazilian biomes," he argued.
