We have to admit: we've never seen anything like this and we're not prepared to face it. Even during the worst moments of the dictatorships that existed in Brazil, there was never a government like the current one. A government whose project is the destruction of education and culture.

Many leaders have not given education and culture the priority they deserve. Many have also embraced outdated or even reactionary understandings of education and culture.

But this contempt, this hatred, this spite, on the part of the president and his ministers, which makes the destruction of education and culture a priority – this is something unique to Bolsonarism.

It's difficult to confront because it's something invulnerable to the clash of ideas. We don't share any values that would allow us to build common ground for debate, and it's from ignorance, brutality, and stupidity that they draw their strength.
