247 - The jurist and professor of Law Lenio Luiz Streck stated this Sunday (30) that former judge Sergio Moro[Name], convicted of bias by the Supreme Federal Court in the Lava Jato cases against former President Lula, received salaries as a legal entity to pay less income tax.

“Moro received a fortune as a contractor to pay less income tax. A million-dollar question, like 'Moro vs. Moro': wasn't there anyone left in the Federal Public Prosecutor's Office to request international cooperation from the US prosecutors to investigate Moro's employer in light of the money laundering evidence? For far less, the Federal Public Prosecutor's Office has already skinned…!!”, Streck wrote on Twitter.

Former judge Sergio Moro stated this Friday (January 28th) that he received US$ 45,000 monthly in an annual contract with the consulting firm Alvarez & Marsal, responsible, among other things, for the judicial recovery of Odebrecht, one of the main targets of the Lava Jato corruption investigation.

Of every R$4 that the US consulting firm earns in fees in Brazil, R$3, or 75%, comes from companies investigated by "Lava Jato." Even so, the judge from the defunct Curitiba consortium went to work for the organization that profits from the judicial recovery of companies that were judged by him, which generated an investigation by the Federal Court of Accounts for conflict of interest.

In a social media broadcast, Moro revealed how much he received from the consulting firm. In addition to the US$45 monthly fee, the former judge also received a "signing bonus" of US$150, but claimed to have returned a portion of it for terminating the contract early to launch his pre-candidacy for the presidency of the Republic. In total, he received R$3,7 million.

Suspicion

The still unexplained relationship may have new developments soon. In a statement sent on Tuesday (January 25th) to Minister Bruno Dantas, Deputy Attorney General Lucas Furtado, who works with the TCU (Federal Court of Accounts), suggested the disqualification of Attorney Júlio Marcelo de Oliveira, who is trying to participate in the process and has already been blocked by the minister.

In the letter sent to Dantas, Lucas Furtado draws attention to the fact that "the friendly and admiring relationship between Mr. Júlio Marcelo and former judge Sérgio Moro is public knowledge."

"Therefore, the suspicion surrounding Mr. Júlio Marcelo — stemming from his friendship with former judge Sergio Moro — should prevent him from participating in the case under analysis, given the doubt about his impartiality and/or independence. I emphasize that I am not requesting my participation in the proceedings," stated the deputy attorney general.

Furthermore, he emphasized that, "in the interest of transparency and to avoid any doubt," he requested that the minister work with the Attorney General of the MPTCU, Cristina Machado da Costa e Silva, to request the procedural transfer or a new drawing of lots for the case among the other members of the body.
