Lava Jato orders the arrest of former minister Silas Rondeau and 11 others for embezzlement at Eletronuclear.

Federal Police agents took to the streets on Thursday morning (12), with the aim of arresting former Minister of Mines and Energy Silas Rondeau, as well as 11 other people. Operation Lava Jato requested the seizure of the assets of those involved and their companies.

247 - Federal Police agents took to the streets this Thursday morning (12), with the aim of arresting former Minister of Mines and Energy Silas Rondeau, president of Eletrobras between 2004-2005, for embezzlement at the state-owned company. The action aims to execute 12 temporary arrest warrants and 18 search and seizure warrants. Also targeted by the police are a former federal deputy, businessmen and former executives of the company investigated for money laundering. Operation Lava Jato requested the seizure of the assets of those involved and their companies for the material and moral damages caused in the amount of R$ 208 million.

According to investigators, the demand for bribes began shortly after Admiral Othon Pinheiro took over as president of the state-owned company as "a quid pro quo for the signing of new contracts and the payment of outstanding amounts from contracts that were already in effect."

The Federal Public Prosecutor's Office stated that part of the scheme operated with companies based in Canada, France, and Denmark. Consequently, the agency requested international cooperation and will share the investigation material with the Public Prosecutor's Offices of these countries.

The arrest warrants are being served in the cities of São Paulo, Barueri (SP), Rio de Janeiro, Petrópolis (RJ), Niterói (RJ) and Brasília (DF).
