Applications for the second semester of FIES (Student Financing Fund) begin this Monday with more than 112,000 places available.
Half of the places will be allocated to the FIES Social program. Applications are open until July 18th on the MEC website.

PaulAccording to information from the Ministry of Education (MEC), a total of more than 112 places will be offered in this edition, with 50% of them reserved for Fies Social, aimed at low-income students registered in CadÚnico.
The federal program aims to facilitate access to higher education by financing tuition fees at private educational institutions. Eligible students only begin repaying the loan after graduation, under conditions adjusted to their family income.
Who can register? To participate in the selection process, it is necessary to have taken the National High School Exam (Enem) from the 2010 edition onwards, to have achieved an average score of 450 points or higher on the objective tests, and not to have received a zero on the essay. Another criterion is the monthly per capita family income: the limit is up to three minimum wages (R$ 4.554).
Candidates who qualify for Fies Social — with a family income of up to one and a half minimum wages (R$ 2.277) and registration in CadÚnico — will be entitled to full financing of their undergraduate studies and coverage of up to 100% of educational expenses.
How to register - Registration must be done through the Single Portal for Access to Higher Education, in the section dedicated to FIES (Student Financing Fund). The student needs to have an account on Gov.br to access the system. After logging in, it will be necessary to fill out a form with personal data, such as CPF (Brazilian taxpayer ID) and email, and choose up to three options for course, shift, and educational institution.
Classification criteria - Candidate selection will be based on ENEM scores, in descending order, by competition category and preference group. The MEC (Ministry of Education) notice establishes the following prioritization criteria:
- Candidates who do not yet have a higher education diploma and have never benefited from FIES (Student Financing Fund);
- Candidates without a higher education degree who have previously benefited from FIES (Student Financing Fund) and paid off the loan;
- Candidates with a higher education degree who have never used FIES (Student Financing Fund);
- Candidates with a degree who have previously received and paid off financing.
