The victim, identified as Felipe Moraes Oliveira, was shot in the abdomen on Tuesday morning (27), in the Jardim do Estádio neighborhood. According to family members, there was an argument when he tried to enter the establishment accompanied by his dog. The security guard shot Felipe, who ran to a neighboring pharmacy to ask for help, but did not survive and died at the scene.

According to the Civil Police, the suspect in the shooting voluntarily presented himself to the Homicide and Personal Protection Sector (SHPP) in Santo André on Wednesday night (28) and was arrested. His identity was not disclosed. The family claims that the man was an active police officer, working as a security guard on a “side job”, but the São Paulo Public Security Secretariat (SSP-SP) denies this version.

Felipe was a craftsman, artist, and capoeira practitioner, known for participating in rap battles and cultural exhibitions in the ABC region. His wife, Evelyn da Silva, reported on social media that he had only gone out to buy bread with the dog and never returned. The animal was found hours later by family members, who recorded the rescue on video.

The death of Felipe generated outrage and mobilized entities of the black movement and social organizations, which called for an act for this Friday (29), in Praça Carijós, in Santo André. In a statement, groups such as the Unified Black Movement, Unegro and Uneafro stated: “Another life interrupted by structural racism, police violence and the neglect that daily affects the peripheries. Even after his death, he continues to be violated by media narratives that try to portray him as a threat”.

The family created an Instagram page demanding justice (post below).

The Feminist Caucus of the Legislative Assembly of São Paulo filed a lawsuit with the Public Prosecutor's Office requesting an investigation and accountability. The co-deputies argue that "entering a commercial establishment with a dog does not justify violence" and remind that shopping malls and stores... pet friendly They allow animals without this representing any risk. In a statement, the group highlighted: “While elite shopping malls are increasingly welcoming pets, especially dogs, for young black and poor Brazilians this can be a cause of violent death.”
