Haddad denounces yet another act of censorship by the School Without Political Parties.

247 - Former São Paulo mayor Fernando Haddad described the new proposal for the School Without Parties project, which allows for new censorship practices against teachers, as an "aberration." A new project was presented at the opening of the legislative year on Monday (4). The current text includes new features: it aims to ensure students the right to record classes against possible indoctrination and also regulate the activities of student unions, according to informs the Folha de S.Paulo newspaper.

The text of Bill 246 was filed on Monday night by Representative Bia Kicis (PSL-DF). The representative's idea, however, is that the actual discussion should only take place after the government's economic agenda has been processed.

The new project maintains the general outlines of what was discussed last year in a special committee of the Chamber of Deputies and ultimately shelved. Some adjustments, however, remove and also add controversial points.

The "School Without Political Parties" bill is authoritarian, limits the plurality of ideas in schools, and also constrains teachers. There is no evidence to indicate that indoctrination is a widespread problem. Court decisions from various levels and a preliminary injunction from the STF (Supreme Federal Court) have already deemed similar projects unconstitutional.
