The Prerogatives Group expresses solidarity with Dino for the insults he received in the Chamber of Deputies.
"A sad spectacle," says the Prerogativas statement regarding the episode.
247 - The Prerogatives group, composed of jurists, lawyers and public defenders, issued a statement in support of the Minister of Justice, Flávio Dino, after he was called a "runaway" at the CCJ (Constitution and Justice Committee) session held on Tuesday (11), reports journalist Mônica Bergamo in her column in Folha de S.Paulo
The hearing was marked by insults, arguments, and interruptions, which led to the meeting being ended prematurely.
"A sad spectacle," says the Prerogativas statement regarding the episode, noting that Parliament is not the place for "personal offenses [...] against those who, invited or summoned to provide explanations, must have their dignity preserved."
"The group expresses its deepest disgust at the parliamentarians who have not risen to the occasion, using vulgar language instead."

"The Prerogatives Group, a collective that brings together teachers, lawyers from the public and private sectors, public defenders, and also retired judges and members of the Public Prosecutor's Office, publicly expresses its opinion regarding the serious events that occurred on April 11, 2023, at the Public Security Committee of the Chamber of Deputies."
He emphasizes his appreciation for the Brazilian Parliament, a place of conciliation, respect for differences, and important deliberations for the nation, since it is in this privileged location that the guiding principles of the Brazilian legal and social order are drawn.
But Parliament is not a place for physical altercations, personal insults, or physical and moral aggression against its members, or against those who, invited or summoned to provide explanations, must have their dignity preserved.
Without a doubt, the sad spectacle provided on April 11, 2023, by a large number of parliamentarians present at this committee, during the hearing of the eminent Minister of Justice Flávio Dino de Castro e Costa, dishonors the Brazilian Parliament, offends Brazilians who follow the work of this important committee, even more so at this present moment when we are experiencing a spiral of violence and hatred, victimizing even innocent children, and disregards the votes received in good faith from the population that elected them.
The Prerogativas group once again expresses its solidarity and support for the Minister of Justice.
He reiterates his full confidence in the way Minister Flávio Dino has been leading the Ministry of Justice.
The group expresses its deepest repudiation of the parliamentarians who have failed to live up to the mandate they received, using vulgar language, expressing unreasonable positions, and acting outside the democratic spirit that should guide parliamentary debate.
"Like all of Brazilian society, we expect that these offensive behaviors will be investigated by the competent committees of the Brazilian Parliament, especially the Ethics and Parliamentary Decorum Committee, and duly sanctioned, where appropriate. We appeal to the Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies, Federal Deputy Arthur Lira, who, using his leadership, will prevent the repetition of regrettable episodes like yesterday's, for the good of Parliament and the nation, and that this important committee will live up to the expectations of the voters."
