Postal workers' strike will not affect Enem (Brazilian National High School Exam).
Registration confirmation cards are being delivered within the stipulated deadline, until October 14th.
The delivery of registration confirmation cards and support materials for the National High School Exam (Enem) is not being affected by the postal workers' strike. A statement released today by the state-owned company informs that delivery operations are proceeding normally and that the delivery of confirmation cards and support materials, as well as the distribution and collection of exams on the day of the exam, are being finalized.
According to the Brazilian Postal Service (Correios), the cards are being delivered within the timeframe stipulated by Correios – until October 14th. "The delivery of support materials is also proceeding normally, with almost 100% of the total already delivered to its destination," the company stated in a note. The operation encompasses approximately 5,3 million registered individuals – students who have already completed high school – in more than 10 delivery points across 1.603 Brazilian municipalities, according to Correios.
The operation is coordinated by the Ministry of Education, with security support from the Ministries of Defense and Justice, the Army, Air Force, Navy, Federal and State Highway Police, and State Public Security Secretariats, with security coordination provided by the Federal Police (PF).
The Brazilian Postal Service (Correios) began operations in September to deliver more than 160 million textbooks throughout Brazil. The process will continue until February 2012. The distribution, a result of a partnership between Correios and the National Fund for Educational Development (FNDE), serves 147 schools in more than 5.500 municipalities. According to the state-owned company, 15% of the total planned shipment has already been mailed and is being processed and distributed, within the target set by the FNDE.
