Government will use all its police powers to guarantee a discount on diesel, says minister.
The Chief Minister of the Institutional Security Cabinet, Sérgio Etchegoyen, stated that BR Distribuidora adopted a price reduction across its entire fuel stock, "regardless of the cost," but the Presidential Palace announced inspections to curb the charging of abusive prices at the pumps because the discount may not have reached some points of sale.
247 - The Minister-Chief of the Institutional Security Cabinet, Sérgio Etchegoyen, stated this Monday (4) that the federal government will use all the police power it holds to ensure that diesel oil has a discount of R$ 0,46 at gas stations.
According to him, BR Distribuidora adopted the price reduction across its entire fuel stock, "regardless of how much it cost," but the Presidential Palace announced inspections to curb the charging of abusive prices at the pumps because the discount may not have reached some points of sale.
"Regarding the R$ 0,46, BR Distribuidora anticipated the situation and applied a discount to its entire inventory, regardless of its cost. And the federal government is currently readjusting its efforts to monitor this. All its police powers will be used to ensure the reduction," he said.
According to the minister, the federal government can no longer do anything to guarantee the adoption of the reduced price, as the situation has already been passed on to the fuel distributors. "Gas is now normalized throughout the country at the distributors. It's still possible that there are points where it hasn't reached the retail outlets, where people buy it. But it's normalized. There's nothing more to be done. From now on, it's about normalization at the point of sale," he said.
