Brazil Agency - Mobile satellite broadband antennas have begun to be installed in the Yanomami Indigenous Territory in Roraima. According to the Ministry of Communications, 17 devices have been made available to support medical care for the population and strengthen actions to address the public health emergency affecting the region.

"We are here today (9) to connect a connectivity service through the Wi-Fi Brazil program. We already have several other pieces of equipment here in Boa Vista that will be distributed to the other base centers, bringing connectivity and communication to these areas to support all the humanitarian teams of the National Health Force," highlighted the Minister of Communications, Juscelino Filho.

According to the ministry, teams from the National Health System's National Force currently in Yanomami territory have already received training in the use of mobile antennas. Nine people were trained and are expected to act as information multipliers within the healthcare centers.

The equipment functions as Telebras Transportable Satellite Terminals, connecting to the internet via the Geostationary Defense and Strategic Communications Satellite. The device has a battery for use during power outages, lasting up to eight hours. The modem has built-in Wi-Fi, and cell phones and computers can be connected.

The antennas are being sent on an emergency basis, but according to the ministry, connecting the locations permanently is being studied for later this year.
