Government to meet with workers and management of Lojas Americanas. Labor unions protest in Rio.
For union leaders, who met with Minister Luiz Marinho, it is necessary to preserve jobs while responsibilities are being investigated.
Current Brazil Network - The federal government will try to mediate a meeting between representatives of the workers and Lojas Americanas. The objective is to discuss the situation of the employees in light of the request for judicial reorganization made by the retail company. “A lot of sensitivity is needed. The problem of the banks cannot be greater than those related to the issue of work and employment,” said Minister Luiz Marinho, who participated this Monday morning (30) in a meeting in São Paulo with representatives of trade unions and retail workers' unions.
Thus, after the meeting, held at the headquarters of Força Sindical, the unions released a statement affirming that jobs must be preserved regardless of responsibility for the crisis, which will still be investigated. Next Friday (3), at 10 am, the entities will hold a protest in Cinelândia, downtown Rio de Janeiro.
According to the director of Força Sindical, Nilton Souza da Silva, known as Neco, the meeting is important to understand "the true extent" of the restructuring at Lojas Americanas. "Our fight is to maintain jobs, to prevent the company from going bankrupt," he stated. According to him, "there are indications of fraud." The company has 44 direct employees, but an even larger number in its supplier network.
Therefore, the unions state in the note that they requested the government's participation in the process "with the objective of establishing tripartite dialogue and total transparency in what is one of the largest business recovery processes in the country." Minister Marinho also stated that it is fundamental to find a way to guarantee the maintenance of economic activity, regardless of who is the controlling shareholder. "Apparently, it is not a systemic problem," he commented.
