247 - The Minister of Institutional Relations, Gleisi Hoffmann, stated this Thursday (9) that the government will face challenges in restoring the Budget after the setback in the Chamber of Deputies, when the opposition and parties such as União Brasil, PP and Republicanos managed to approve a request to remove from the agenda a Provisional Measure that proposed restoring revenues.

According to Gleisi, the government is still awaiting a proposal from the Ministry of Finance, led by Fernando Haddad, but she assured that it will be necessary to seek alternatives to balance the accounts. "But we will have to recompose. We have to balance the budget. It will work out," said the minister, demonstrating confidence that a solution will be found.

Given the current scenario, the Finance Ministry is working on solutions to compensate for the loss of revenue and reduce mandatory expenses for 2026. Haddad has already stated that he will present alternatives to President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) to avoid a negative impact on public finances. In parallel, President Lula took a position this Thursday, defending that fintechs "pay the taxes due," in a move to increase revenue without further burdening the population.

The defeat of the provisional measure represents a new obstacle for the government, which needs to find ways to secure resources for the coming year.
