The government is updating the rules of the Bolsa Família program to reduce fraud.
The measure targets beneficiaries who identify themselves as single-person households.
247 - The government of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) updated, on Monday (24), the rules of Bolsa Família, focusing on reducing fraud in the program, especially among beneficiaries who declare themselves as single-person families.
The main change is the requirement for home visits by public agents to collect data from this type of beneficiary before inclusion in the Bolsa Família program. This measure will be carried out by the Social Assistance Reference Centers (CRAS).
During Jair Bolsonaro's administration, when the benefit amount was fixed regardless of the number of family members, the number of "lonely" people receiving the aid jumped from 2,2 million at the end of 2021 to 5,8 million a year later.
Currently, 3,4 million people identify themselves as single-person households in the Bolsa Família program, representing 16,8% of the total beneficiaries. The rate considered ideal by the Ministry of Social Development is 16%.
