"Black dollar" scam in Bahia ends in arrest.
Businessman was deceived by two criminals who sold him banknotes painted black.
247, with Agência Estado - Police arrested two suspects for carrying out the "black dollar" scam in Vitória da Conquista, Bahia. The victim was a businessman from Boa Nova, a city 480 kilometers from Salvador. He wanted to buy American currency from the pair and, upon opening the package of bills, found a few real dollars hidden among other notes - which were, in fact, papers painted black.
The businessman allegedly paid around R$ 1 million to the criminals. The Federal Highway Police reports that they received the complaint from the victim's sister last night. After deceiving her, the pair fled in a Hyundai vehicle towards Vitória da Conquista.
Police officers apprehended the criminals on BR-116 near the city of Bahia. Evenilson Pereira da Silva, 42, and José Lúcio Antunes Costa, 52, were arrested in the act. A significant amount of money was seized from the car. Both will face charges of fraud.
