Gleisi: 'Exploring resources in the Equatorial Margin is an obligation for a country seeking energy security'
The potential of the resources is proven, according to the minister.
247 - The Minister of the Secretariat of Institutional Relations (SRI), Gleisi Hoffmann (PR), wrote this Wednesday (12) a message of support for Petrobras and defended the research in the Equatorial Margin to find out the economic potential of the region, which passes through the following states: Rio Grande do Norte, Ceará, Piauí, Maranhão, Pará and Amapá.
"Exploring these resources is an obligation for a country seeking energy security, while also encouraging the transition," the congresswoman wrote on social media, adding that "no other president has been as committed to environmental preservation as Lula has demonstrated in his governments." "And no other oil and gas company is more aware of this issue, in theory and in practice, than our Petrobras," Gleisi continued.
"The potential for oil resources in the Equatorial Margin has been demonstrated by neighboring countries that are already working in the area. This is the correct direction from President @LulaOficial, and this is how we will build a better future for the country, with the environmental security that Petrobras is able to guarantee better than any other company."
In 2024, the National Confederation of Industry (CNI) reported that oil production in the Equatorial Margin could add R$ 65 billion to the national Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and R$ 3,87 billion to indirect tax revenue in Brazil. The calculations were based on the regional accounts system of the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) from 2019, to isolate any distortions due to the pandemic.
