Gleisi Hoffmann: "Bolsonarism shames Brazil by displaying the US flag on Independence Day"

The Minister of Institutional Relations stated that the attitude is an "insult to the Nation" and emphasized that the true struggle is for the sovereignty of the Brazilian people.

247 - The Minister of Institutional Relations, Gleisi Hoffmann, used her social media this Sunday (7) to criticize the stance of Jair Bolsonaro's supporters during the acts in defense of amnesty.

In a social media post, Gleisi highlighted the inconsistency of the protesters who, instead of celebrating Brazil on Independence Day, called for amnesty for Bolsonaro while waving American flags.

“That’s our difference from Bolsonaro supporters: we salute the Brazilian flag. We exalt the flag of Brazil, of the Brazilian people. On September 7th, Jair Bolsonaro’s supporters carry, in a demonstration for amnesty, the flag of the USA, which is imposing massive tariffs and sanctions on Brazil. They will do anything to save Bolsonaro from the punishments he deserves. Our fight is for Brazil, on the side of the Brazilian people,” wrote Gleisi.

The minister reinforced the symbolism of the date and classified the gesture of the Bolsonaro supporters as disrespectful: “This is an insult to the Fatherland, today is a day to celebrate our sovereignty, autonomy and independence! True patriots say no to any kind of foreign tutelage or interference!”.

According to Gleisi, the opposition's conduct relegates the national flag to the background at a time when it should be exalted: “The Brazilian flag is ignored, the US flag is exalted. The incoherence is total, Bolsonarism shames Brazil. What a shame. The celebration is to commemorate Brazil's independence.”
