Gleisi acquitted: nothing erases the suffering.

Acquitted by a 5-0 vote in the Supreme Federal Court after four years of relentless persecution, Senator Gleisi Hoffmann (PT-PR) celebrated in a restrained manner: she posted an image of her victory shortly after stating that nothing would erase the suffering caused to her family; now, all that remains is to free Lula.

247 - Acquitted by a 5-0 vote in the Supreme Federal Court after four years of relentless persecution, Senator Gleisi Hoffmann (PT-PR) celebrated in a restrained manner: she posted an image of her victory shortly after stating that nothing would erase the suffering caused to her family; now, all that remains is to free Lula.

In a tweet posted after the Supreme Court's decision, Gleisi wrote about the family's suffering and the damage that a predominantly political and persecutory accusation had caused to her image and work routine.

“One of the main leaders of the PT, Senator Gleisi Hoffmann (PR), national president of the party, was acquitted this Tuesday (19) of the accusation of having participated in a corruption and money laundering scheme diverted from Petrobras. Her husband, former minister Paulo Bernardo, and businessman Ernesto Kugler were also found innocent of the Lava Jato accusations. The ministers of the second panel of the STF (Supreme Federal Court) understood that the PGR (Attorney General's Office) failed to prove the crimes that were imputed by former Attorney General Rodrigo Janot.

The judges criticized the structure of the indictment, which they considered to be based solely on plea bargain testimonies from individuals with vested interests in making accusations and who did not present evidence to corroborate their statements. "There are so many incongruities and inconsistencies in the plea bargain testimonies that they become unusable to support any conviction," said Ricardo Lewandowski.

Justice Fachin, the rapporteur for the Lava Jato case at the Supreme Court, considered that the Attorney General's Office failed to prove that the Workers' Party member received money in exchange for something in return, and therefore she could not be convicted of passive corruption and consequent money laundering.
