Gilmar Mendes on Mauro Cid's testimony: "It is based on facts."
The minister indicates that he will not allow the annulment of the plea bargain against Bolsonaro.
247 - Supreme Court Justice Gilmar Mendes said on Tuesday (25) that the testimony of Jair Bolsonaro's former aide has credibility and highlighted that the investigations into the attempted coup d'état are at an advanced stage.
"It is clear that Mauro Cid's testimony is extremely important. But we are seeing that it is based on facts. You have been publishing a dialogue that Minister Alexandre de Moraes has with him, showing the contradictions. But the contradictions he shows are in the face of facts already investigated, saying: 'This does not correspond to the truth'," the magistrate declared to journalists, according to the Metropolis.
Lawyer Celso Vilardi, representing Jair Bolsonaro, said on Monday (24) that he will ask for the annulment of the lieutenant colonel's plea bargain.
Brazil's Attorney General's Office has filed charges against Bolsonaro and 33 other individuals with the Supreme Federal Court (STF). The case is under the jurisdiction of Justice Alexandre de Moraes and is expected to be heard by the First Panel. The trial is expected to begin in the first half of this year.
Among other things, the informant stated that he himself scheduled a meeting at the home of General Walter Braga Netto, former minister under Bolsonaro, on November 12, 2022, which was also attended by two Army colonels: Rafael Oliveira and Ferreira Lima. This meeting initiated the planning of the attacks against President Lula, Vice-President Geraldo Alckmin, and Moraes. However, Cid said he left the meeting before the plan was discussed, on Braga Netto's advice, to avoid direct connection with Bolsonaro. Despite this, according to the Attorney General's Office, Bolsonaro was aware of and agreed to the planning and execution of the attacks against the lives of the three authorities.
