Reuters - Genial/Quaest polls released this Monday show former president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) and the current president, Jair Bolsonaro (PL), technically tied in the presidential election in São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, with the PT candidate leading in the race in Minas Gerais.

In São Paulo, the country's largest electoral district, Lula leads with 37% of voter preference, compared to 36% just over two weeks ago, while Bolsonaro has 35%, down from 37%.

The Workers' Party candidate is therefore numerically ahead of the candidate seeking re-election, but since the margin of error for the São Paulo survey is 2 percentage points, they are in a technical tie.

The technical tie in São Paulo prevails in the simulation of a runoff between Lula and Bolsonaro, also with a numerical advantage for the former president. The Workers' Party candidate has 43% to Bolsonaro's 42%, maintaining the score from the previous poll.

For the survey in São Paulo, Quaest interviewed 2 people between September 22nd and 25th. The surveys in the three states were commissioned by the brokerage firm Genial Investimentos.

In Rio de Janeiro, the third-largest electoral college in the country and the state where Bolsonaro built his political career, the incumbent president has the numerical advantage, but there is also a technical tie with Lula. Bolsonaro has 39% of the voter support in Rio de Janeiro, compared to 40% in September, while Lula has 37%, compared to 36%. The margin of error for this survey is 2,5 percentage points.

In the runoff simulation, the technical tie and Bolsonaro's numerical advantage in the state persist. The incumbent has 44%, compared to 45% in the previous poll, while Lula has 43%, compared to 44%.

For the research in Rio, Quaest interviewed 1.500 people between September 22nd and 25th.

On the other hand, in Minas Gerais, the second largest electoral college in the country and the state where the president-elect has won every election since redemocratization, Lula is in the lead.

The Workers' Party candidate has 45% of Minas Gerais voters' support, compared to 43%, while Bolsonaro has 33%, compared to 36% in the previous poll. The margin of error is plus or minus 2 percentage points.

In a possible second round, Lula would have 50% in Minas, the same level as in the previous poll, while Bolsonaro would have 38%, compared to 39%.

For the Minas Gerais survey, Quaest interviewed 2 people in the state between September 22nd and 25th.
