247 - The president of the Central Bank (BC), Gabriel Galípolo, stated this Wednesday (12) that inflation will remain, in the short term, a source of discomfort for Brazilians. During a seminar promoted by the Institute of Economic Policy Studies/Casa das Garças (IEPE/CdG), in Rio de Janeiro, Galípolo commented on the high interest rates.

"It's an uncomfortable time for businesses and families, as inflation is expected to remain high, outside the target range, and we hope that monetary policy will take effect gradually," he said.

Galípolo also questioned why the country has one of the lowest unemployment rates in recent years, despite the high interest rates.

"My perception is that, over the years, various sectors of the economy and society have developed strategies to learn to live with higher interest rates," he said.
