247 - The Brazilian Supreme Court is already investigating the leak of the inquiry against Senator Demóstenes Torres (independent/GO) and suspects that court employees themselves collaborated in the publication of the information by Brasil 247. In an open letter to Minister Ricardo Lewandowski, Brasil 247 advocated for the end of the confidentiality of the case.

The Brazilian Supreme Court (STF) has launched an investigation into the leak of classified information from the inquiry into the links between illegal gambling operator Carlinhos Cachoeira and Senator Demóstenes Torres (independent-GO). The inquiry is proceeding under seal at the Supreme Court, but some of the classified documents were published on April 27 by the news website Brasil 247.

A staff member from the Supreme Court, with extensive knowledge of internal procedures, is participating in the investigation. There is a suspicion that the leak originated from employees of the Supreme Court itself.

This internal investigation is in addition to an inquiry by the Federal Police (PF) initiated last month. The PF is also investigating the leak of classified information from Operation Monte Carlo. The investigation began after complaints from the defense lawyers of politicians identified in wiretaps as having some kind of involvement with the illegal gambling operator from Goiás.

The release of data from the investigation against Senator Demóstenes Torres occurred hours after Minister Ricardo Lewandowski authorized the Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry (CPMI) to access the inquiry. Earlier that week, the Attorney General of the Republic, Roberto Gurgel, described the leak of data from Operation Monte Carlo and Operation Vegas (2009) as "scandalous."

During this week, the PSDB filed a request with the STF (Supreme Federal Court) asking for the end of the secrecy surrounding the investigations into the Carlinhos Cachoeira case.
