Agência Brasil - The polar air mass that arrived today (28) in the Southern Region caused a sharp drop in temperature in Paraná, Santa Catarina and Rio Grande do Sul. The lowest temperature in the Southern Region, recorded by the National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet), was -1.1 degrees Celsius (°C) in Urubici (SC), the highest inhabited point in the South of the country.

In Paraná, the lowest temperature was recorded in the district of Pinhão, in the south-central region (2.3°C). This is the lowest temperature since 2004, according to meteorologist Fernando Mendes, from the state's meteorological service (Simepar). "In Guarapuava, in the south of the state, the minimum was 3°C, the lowest temperature for this season since 1998," Mendes reported.

In the southern part of the state, excluding the coastal strip, minimum temperatures were below 10°C, while in the south, center, southwest, and the microregion of Cascavel, values were below 5°C. Entre Rios recorded 2,7°C and Guarapuava, 2°C. In Curitiba, thermometers are registering 9°C this morning.

According to Inmet (National Institute of Meteorology), frost likely occurred (confirmation will be made later) in the southern and mid-western plateaus of Santa Catarina, in the northeastern mountains, and in the central plateau of Rio Grande do Sul. According to the state's Center for Environmental Resources and Hydrometeorology Information (Ciram), the cold, dry air mass is keeping the weather stable, with clear skies and sunshine prevailing throughout the day. The temperature, currently low this morning, will rise slightly during the day. The wind is light to moderate, blowing from the southwest to southeast.

Starting this Wednesday, temperatures are also expected to drop in Mato Grosso do Sul and São Paulo. The Inmet forecast predicts moderate to heavy rain, with thunderstorms and gusts of wind in isolated areas of northeastern Pará, Amapá, southern, central and eastern Goiás, the Federal District, the Triângulo Mineiro region, southern and western Minas Gerais, as well as northeastern and eastern São Paulo. In Rio de Janeiro, wind gusts between 60 and 80 kilometers per hour are also expected.
