Florestan: there's no point in arresting Lula, he's our Mandela.
According to journalist Florestan Fernandes Júnior, keeping Lula in prison places the former president on the same level as South African leader Nelson Mandela; "A man respected throughout the planet, the greatest statesman Brazil has ever had. Lula was the greatest political and popular leader to emerge in South America, and keeping him imprisoned is pointless. He is the Brazilian Mandela," said Florestan on the program Bom Dia 247; "He certainly deserves the Nobel Prize. The world owes him that. A man who waged a crusade against hunger, who achieved social inclusion. Just look at Brazil during Lula's time and Brazil after Lula," he emphasized.
247 - For Florestan Fernandes Júnior, of Journalists for DemocracyThe unpreparedness of the top echelon of the federal government, and of President Jair Bolsonaro himself, is the opposite of what was demonstrated by former President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, kept as a political prisoner in Curitiba, during his two terms at the head of the Executive Branch. For him, keeping Lula in prison puts the former president on the same level as the South African leader Nelson Mandela. A man respected throughout the planet, the greatest statesman Brazil has ever had. Lula was the greatest political and popular leader to appear in South America and it's no use keeping him imprisoned. He is the Brazilian Mandela," said Florestan on Bom Dia 247, broadcast this Saturday (6) by TV 247.
"You are turning him into a hero. And Lula has the dignity to remain imprisoned, suffering, watching his wife die, his grandson die, and still has the strength, from inside a cell, unjustly condemned, to be rooting for and indicating paths for the Brazilian people," he emphasized. "He certainly deserves the Nobel Prize. The world owes him that. A man who waged a crusade against hunger, who achieved social inclusion. Just look at Brazil during Lula's time and Brazil after Lula," he highlighted.
