American family disappears after pirate attack on ferry in Pará.
A couple from the United States and their two daughters disappeared last Sunday (29) after a pirate attack on a ferry in the Furo Grande River, on Marajó Island, in Pará; the family was on a ferry that left Belém bound for Macapá; when the vessel approached Marajó Island, a group of pirates invaded the ferry, taking the boat to a sparsely populated area known as Porto dos Dias.
247 - A couple from the United States and their two daughters disappeared last Sunday (29) after a pirate attack on a ferry in the Furo Grande River, near Breves, on Marajó Island, in Pará. The Civil Police opened an investigation to find out the whereabouts of the children and Adam Harris Heart, 39, and Emily Faith Heart, 37.
According to the Pará State Security Secretariat (Segup), the family was on a ferry leaving Belém bound for Macapá. As the vessel approached Marajó Island, a group of pirates boarded the ferry, taking the boat to a sparsely populated area known as Porto dos Dias.
The suspects overpowered the occupants and stole part of the cargo before abandoning the vessel with crew and passengers. The absence of the American couple and their children was only noticed after the police arrived. It is suspected that the couple and their children either fled the ferry with their belongings during the robbery or were kidnapped by the heavily armed pirates.
Police in Amapá have already seized the van in which the family was traveling. The State Secretariat of Public Security (Segup) reported that a helicopter was sent to search the region for the couple and the children. Two investigations have been opened: one to investigate the robbery of the tugboat Taigó I and the barge Andorinha, and another to discover the whereabouts of the Americans. Segup's intelligence sector is in contact with Adam and Emily's family members both in the United States and in Florianópolis, the couple's residence.
