247 - The coordinator of the lawyers' group Prerrogativas, Marco Aurélio de Carvalho, described as "appalling" and "extremely serious" the statements made by Minister José Múcio (Defense) regarding the possibility of amnesty for Bolsonaro supporters arrested on January 8th. The statements were given to Mônica Bergamo's column in [publication name]. Folha de São Paulo

In interview with the program Live WheelMúcio argued for differentiating the sentences of those involved in the attacks and that the National Congress, not the Supreme Federal Court (STF), should make a decision on the matter. In the interview, Múcio also said that his relatives camped in front of the barracks.

Marco Aurélio criticized the statement, affirming that "amnesty is not and never will be the best way to reconcile a country still so divided by hatred and intolerance," and highlighted that Mucio "insulted thousands of families who still mourn their dead," alluding to the military dictatorship.

"Before making his statement, Múcio should read the case files and the proceedings. He should seek legal counsel. Múcio insulted those who continue to defend our democracy and our institutions. He insulted the Supreme Federal Court and common sense," he said.

Despite the criticism, the lawyer acknowledged "Minister Mucio's loyalty to President Lula" and his importance in stabilizing the government's relations with the Armed Forces.
