Former governor of Goiás, José Eliton (PSDB), is the target of an operation launched by the Federal Police; the operation investigates suspected bid-rigging and embezzlement of public funds from the Goiás Sanitation Company (Saneago) between 2012 and 2016; in addition to the search and seizure warrant against the former governor, agents are also executing five temporary arrest warrants and seven other search and seizure warrants against directors of the state-owned company, businesspeople, and public officials.
247 - Former governor of Goiás José Eliton (PSDB) is the target of an operation launched by the Federal Police this Thursday (28). Operation Decantação 2 investigates suspicions of fraud in bidding processes and embezzlement of public funds from the Goiás Sanitation Company (Saneago) between 2012 and 2016. In addition to the search and seizure warrant against the former governor, agents are also executing five temporary arrest warrants and seven other search and seizure warrants against state-owned company directors, businessmen and public officials.
In a statement, the Federal Police highlighted that the warrants were issued by the 11th Federal Court of Goiás, in the cities of Goiânia and Aparecida de Goiânia, and also include the seizure of 65 properties valued at approximately R$ 35 million.
The operation is based on data and evidence collected during Operation Decantação, launched in 2016. According to the investigations, part of the funds intended for payments for services rendered to Saneago were transferred to the chief of staff of José Eliton, then governor of the state.
