247 - President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva reacted strongly to recent statements by US President Donald Trump, who defended Jair Bolsonaro (PL), who is facing charges in the Supreme Federal Court (STF) for attempted coup d'état. Lula stated that he does not intend to comment directly on the Republican's support for the former Brazilian president, as he considers there to be "more important things" to discuss.

During a press interview at the closing of the BRICS summit in Rio de Janeiro, the Brazilian head of state was direct in addressing the US president: "Mind your own business, not ours." "I'm not going to comment on this Trump and Bolsonaro thing. I have more important things to talk about than that," Lula said when questioned about the US president's stance. "This country has laws, rules, and an owner, called the Brazilian people," he added.

Before the press conference, Lula had already publicly spoken out against the statements of the Republican leader, who described Bolsonaro, his family, and his supporters as victims of a "witch hunt." In a statement, Lula made it clear that Brazil will not accept foreign interference in its institutions and that no one is above the law. "The defense of democracy in Brazil is a matter for all Brazilians. We are a sovereign country. We do not accept interference or tutelage from anyone," Lula stated in the text released by his press office.
