Alckmin says Gleisi's entry into the government did not impact the dollar.
The national president of the PT (Workers' Party) has been nominated to head the Secretariat of Institutional Relations.
247 – Vice President Geraldo Alckmin described the nomination of the national president of the Workers' Party (PT), Gleisi Hoffmann, to head the Secretariat of Institutional Relations (SRI) of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva's (PT) government as "good news".
The spot dollar closed this Friday (28) up 1,50%, at R$5,9165 -- the highest closing price since January 24, when it closed at R$5,9182.
During a press conference this Friday (28), Alckmin commented on the dollar's fluctuation and highlighted that the Brazilian government cannot interfere in the economic policies of the United States, but emphasized that Gleisi's appointment could positively impact the currency.
"In reality, we can't interfere with Trump. Now, if it's because of Gleisi, he's going to fall. He's going to fall. You can be sure of that, because she's going to be a good surprise. She has legislative experience, the Federal Chamber, the Senate, the Executive branch, and is the President of the party," said Alckmin.
Gleisi's inauguration, scheduled for March 10th, coincides with the day Alexandre Padilha, the current Minister of Institutional Relations, takes over the Ministry of Health, replacing Nísia Trindade. This change occurs at a time when the head of the Executive branch is seeking "a bit more aggressiveness in politics." (With information from...) Metropolis).
