The ENEM exam will be administered this Sunday in more than 1,7 municipalities.
The entrance exam is the main way to gain admission to public higher education.
Brazil Agency - The National High School Exam (Enem) 2022 begins to be applied this Sunday (13) throughout the country in printed and digital modalities. Both the tests and the essay topic will be the same in both modalities. In total, around 3,4 million candidates will take the exam.
The National Institute for Educational Studies and Research Anísio Teixeira (Inep), responsible for administering the exams, released this week the official numbers for the test, which is the main way to enter public higher education through the Unified Selection System (Sisu), to obtain scholarships through the University for All Program (Prouni), and to participate in the Student Financing Fund (Fies).
In total, 3.331.566 candidates will take the printed version of the ENEM exam and 65.066 will take the digital version. The majority are in the states of São Paulo (527.097), Minas Gerais (301.350), and Bahia (260.331). Women represent 61% of the candidates, and Black people, including both Black and mixed-race individuals, make up 54,8% of those registered.
The Enem will be held at 11.175 testing sites in 1.747 municipalities. More than 320,5 people will be involved in administering the exam, including state and municipal coordinators, administrators, and supervisors.
On the day of the exam, it is mandatory to bring an original photo ID. Accepted forms of identification include identity cards, driver's licenses (CNH), passports, and work permits issued after January 27, 1997.
The new feature of this edition is that digital documents with photos of the e-Título, digital CNH and digital RG will be accepted, which must be presented in the respective official applications. Photos of the cell phone screen will not be accepted.
Another mandatory item is a black ballpoint pen made of transparent material. It is required to complete the answer sheet for the printed ENEM and to write the essay for both the printed and digital ENEM. A face mask is mandatory, except in states or municipalities where its use in enclosed spaces is authorized by decree or administrative act with similar regulatory authority.
Participants are also recommended to bring snacks and water, as the race is long, and to bring their registration confirmation card, which contains, among other information, the race location. The card can be accessed on the participant's page.
If students need to prove they participated in the exam, they can also print the attendance certificate for each test day from the participant page, providing their CPF (Individual Taxpayer Registry) and password. This certificate, which must be presented to the examiner at the entrance each day, can be used, for example, to justify absences from work.
First day of the exam
On the first day of the ENEM exam, candidates will take, in addition to the objective tests in languages and humanities, the only subjective part of the assessment: the essay. The gates open at 12:00 PM and close at 1:00 PM. Entry is not permitted after the gates close. The exams begin at 1:30 PM and end at 7:00 PM. All times are Brasília time.
Next Sunday (21), participants will take the mathematics and natural sciences tests.
The exam selects students for public higher education positions through Sisu, for scholarships at private institutions through Prouni, and serves as a benchmark for Fies. The results can also be used for admission to Portuguese educational institutions that have agreements with INEP.
To test their knowledge, students can access the free Enem Questions from Empresa Brasil de Comunicação (EBC), a database of questions from past exams. The system allows students to choose which areas of knowledge they want to study. The database selects questions randomly.
