247 - Journalist Eleonora de Lucena stated that "the imprisonment of President Lula shows that, if he cannot run, the elections are compromised. That is why the Brazil Nation Project also wrote a letter of solidarity to President Lula, condemning the imprisonment and denouncing the fraudulent process that occurred in the Judiciary."

“The manifesto stated that defending the freedom and candidacy of President Lula today has nothing to do with the PT [Workers' Party], it has nothing to do with any political position, but rather it has to do with the defense of democracy. Today, President Lula is the emblem of the defense of democracy. Whether voting for him or not, the recovery of democracy depends on Lula's freedom, so that he can run,” she said at the National Forum For a Project for Brazilian Cities.

The former president is imprisoned after being convicted without evidence in the Guarujá (SP) triplex case and having an arrest warrant issued by Sérgio Moro without exhausting all judicial appeals. Even imprisoned, Lula leads all electoral polls. According to a survey by the MDA institute for the National Confederation of Transport (CNT), released on May 14, he has 32,4% of the votes, followed by presidential candidate Jair Bolsonaro (PSL-RJ), with 16,7% of the votes in the stimulated modality.
