Eduardo slams Tarcísio: he doesn't represent the "anti-establishment" expected by Bolsonaro supporters.
Jair Bolsonaro's son criticizes the political profile of the governor of São Paulo and admits he might run for president under a different party banner.
247 - Brazilian congressman Eduardo Bolsonaro (PL-SP) stated that the governor of São Paulo, Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicanos), does not fit the profile of confrontation with the establishment desired by Bolsonaro's electorate. The statement was made in an interview with journalist Cláudio Dantas's YouTube channel, according to the newspaper. The Globe.
During the interview, Eduardo emphasized that, while he recognizes Tarcísio's character and management skills, he believes the governor's political style does not meet the expectations of a large part of the conservative activist base. "While we are in office, we show a bit of our profile, and Tarcísio's really isn't one of fighting the establishment," said the congressman.
“I’m not criticizing him here; he’s a person of excellent character, a good manager, but he does politics in a different way. I think our base expects something else from us, but I don’t claim to have all the answers. Ideally, we should put him to the test and see what the voters decide,” he concluded.
When questioned about the possibility of running for President of the Republic, Eduardo Bolsonaro did not rule out the possibility of running under another party banner, should the PL choose not to support a candidacy of Jair Bolsonaro. "It seems that the PL wants to direct a candidacy towards Tarcísio or someone other than Bolsonaro. In my opinion, this is a disregard for public opinion, and it's not just about my name, it's about Flávio Bolsonaro's as well," he stated.
He further emphasized that if the former president is prevented from running, he will seek another party to launch his candidacy. "If Jair Bolsonaro doesn't run, I'll have to find another party and run. Even if I'm defeated, there's victory in defeat," he declared.
In the interview, Eduardo Bolsonaro downplayed potential harm from a fragmentation of the right wing, citing names like Ronaldo Caiado (União-GO) and Romeu Zema (Novo-MG) as alternatives who could contest the election. According to him, the presence of other conservative candidates would not represent a problem, as long as Jair Bolsonaro is also able to participate.
