247 - Federal deputy Eduardo Bolsonaro (PL-SP) questioned the arrest of former minister Anderson Torres and said there is suspicion that his ally "tried to commit suicide" in prison.

“There is no reason for the arrest. Anderson Torres already suffers from depression. They say he has lost more than 12 kilos. Some even suggest he may have attempted suicide,” said the congressman, according to the journalist's column. Paulo Cappelli, from Metrópoles.

“Why is a person who returned to Brazil being detained? Pretrial detention is only applicable when there is a risk of flight, which was not the case. Anderson Torres has even returned to the country. He is not hindering the investigations nor endangering economic or public order,” he added.

According to the report, allies of Jair Bolsonaro (PL) have begun monitoring the former minister's emotional state in recent days. "There is a fear that, without prospects of release, he will make a plea bargain against Bolsonaro. The rumor intensified after Rodrigo Roca, close to the former president, left Torres' defense. Currently, the lawyer handling the case is Eumar Novacki. He denies that a plea bargain is on the radar," the column highlights.

Anderson Torres was preventively arrested on January 14th as part of the investigation into the terrorist acts of January 8th, when Bolsonaro supporters and far-right militants invaded and vandalized the headquarters of the Three Branches of Government.

He is being investigated by the Federal Police on suspicion of negligence and facilitation of the attempted coup when he held the position of Secretary of Security for the Federal District.
