247 - The president of the Workers' Party (PT), Edinho Silva, commented on the license granted by the Brazilian Institute of Environment and Renewable Natural Resources (Ibama) to Petrobras for drilling an exploratory well in the Equatorial Margin. In a publication, the leader highlighted that the decision is strategic for the country's energy future.

“Petrobras has received an operating license from Ibama to drill an exploratory well in the Brazilian Equatorial Margin. This is an important step in assessing the viability of the exploration,” he stated. He further emphasized that “the authorization was the result of a process based on technical studies, environmental assessments, and extensive dialogue between institutions.”

For Edinho Silva, the decision reflects a commitment made by the federal government and Petrobras to a sustainable development model. According to him, the challenge is to reconcile technological advancement and the exploitation of energy resources with the preservation of the environment and the well-being of local communities.

The Workers' Party leader also stressed that the party is closely monitoring this process and reinforces the need for ongoing dialogue with the states of the Legal Amazon. "The goal is to ensure that any step towards exploration in the region occurs in a responsible, participatory, and transparent manner, reconciling national development with environmental protection and a just energy transition," he wrote.

Edinho also announced that, in November of this year, the PT will hold a meeting with activists from the Northern Region. One of the central points of the event will be the formulation of a sustainable development proposal for the region, in line with the challenges posed by energy exploration and climate change.
