"It's time to put the past behind us and celebrate Ciro Gomes' support," says Fernando Horta.

The historian said he expects Ciro to join Lula on the campaign trail. "From now on, Ciro Gomes' position is unconditional in his support of Lula's candidacy," he stated.

247 - Historian Fernando Horta celebrated Ciro Gomes' (PDT) declaration of support for Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva's (PT) candidacy in the second round of the presidential elections.

Finishing fourth in the elections with 3% of the vote, Ciro followed the unanimous decision of the PDT party to support Lula against Jair Bolsonaro. In a video on social media, the former candidate said that "given the circumstances, [supporting Lula] is the last resort."

"It's time to show greatness at this moment and draw a line under what Ciro Gomes did, said, and wrote. It's time for the left to start from scratch; from now on, Ciro Gomes's position is unconditional in supporting Lula's candidacy," Horta said on TV 247, in an interview with journalist Leonardo Attuch.

Fernando Horta said he hopes Ciro will join Lula's campaign. "I expect Ciro Gomes, with his strength and verve, his ability to mobilize his voters, to join what the population is already doing in these next four weeks to pull Brazil out of this nightmare," said the historian.
