Reuters - President Jair Bolsonaro is expected to sign a decree on Friday that will ease gun ownership laws in the country, São Paulo Governor João Doria (PSDB) announced after a meeting at the Planalto Palace.

The decree prepared by the Ministry of Justice and Public Security is being finalized in the Civil House and foresees increasing the renewal period for gun ownership authorization from five to 10 years, clearer rules for proving the need for gun ownership, and expanding the cases considered for this need, such as living in rural areas or in cities with more than 10 homicides per 100 inhabitants.

In the first week of the administration, the Minister of the Civil House, Onyx Lorenzoni, stated that this should be the first measure announced by the government, as it was a campaign promise of Bolsonaro.

The governor of São Paulo also informed, upon leaving the meeting, that he discussed the privatization of Ceagesp, which belongs to the federal government.

According to Doria, the intention of the São Paulo government is, in the privatization process, to cede another area, three or four times larger, and next to a highway, to facilitate the flow of products. A technology hub would be created in the current Ceagesp area.
