Dilma: Bolsonaro is a psychopath and institutions are apathetic.
Former President Dilma Rousseff, in an interview with TV 247, harshly criticizes Jair Bolsonaro's reckless stance in dealing with the coronavirus. Against the backdrop of the crisis, Dilma advocates for increasing the Bolsa Família program, releasing unemployment benefits, and raising the spending cap as fundamental actions.
247 - Former President Dilma Rousseff said this Wednesday, the 18th, in an interview with TV 247, that the coronavirus epidemic is "the most serious moment that Brazil has experienced in recent years."
She stated that the Minister of Health is taking measures, albeit belatedly, but that the Minister of Economy, Paulo Guedes, "doesn't see the coronavirus, only the reforms, and doesn't see the Brazilian people." Dilma pointed to the existence of a conflict between President Bolsonaro and Minister Mandetta.
When assessing the government's actions to combat the coronavirus pandemic, Dilma said it was a serious mistake not to have imported a large quantity of tests to administer to the population. "It was a very serious mistake. Testing is fundamental because it also serves those who, suspected of having the virus, may not yet have symptoms and, because of this, become involuntary spreaders," stated the Workers' Party leader.
Former President Dilma points out that increasing the Bolsa Família program, releasing unemployment insurance, and raising the spending cap are fundamental actions to protect the 40% of the economically active population that is currently in the informal sector, and also highlights the importance of free healthcare. "Public policies are crucial. The SUS (Unified Health System) is fundamental to the country today and must be universalized," she adds.
Quarantine
Dilma also mentions that she arrived from Paris on March 6th and, even without presenting any symptoms, opted for isolation, emphasizing that the suspension of activities involving people is fundamental. "There is no way to contain the virus without a very serious approach to blocking interpersonal contact," Dilma Rousseff points out.
