Kassab changes his tune and now says Lula is strong.
The president of the PSD (Social Democratic Party) has revised his position and admitted that Lula is a strong contender in the 2026 election.
247 - The president of the PSD and secretary of government and Institutional Relations, in the government of Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicanos), in São Paulo, Gilberto Kassab, changed his tone after declaring last week that President Lula would not be re-elected if the presidential election were held today. Kassab stated this Thursday (6) that the PT member "is strong" and "can still reverse the scenario".
"It's still too early to say anything about the election. He can still reverse the situation. He is strong," Kassab told the Estado de S. Paulo newspaper during the Infomoney Outliers Awards.
The PSD holds three ministries in Lula's government, but the party faces internal dissatisfaction from politicians who are unable to place their protégés in positions within the federal government, and, on the other hand, from a faction that resists joining Lula's government.
Kassab had said that, at the moment, the PT was not in the position of favorite, but of the defeated.
